Say No to John Howard’s unfair workplace laws!

Under Howard's new laws:

  • Unfair Dismissal protection has been abolished for nearly 4 million workers
  • Workers are being forced onto individual contracts (AWA's) that undercut pay and conditions
  • Conditions such as penalty rates, overtime, holiday loadings, public holidays, redundancy pay and work allowances can all be cut
  • The minimum wage is set by Government appointees, not an independent umpire
  • Ordinary union activities are now illegal, attracting fines of up to $33000

The report card on John Howard's AWAs

  • 100% exclude at least one Award condition
  • 64% remove penalty rates
  • 63% erase annual leave loading
  • More than 1 in 5 provide no pay increase for the life of the agreement (up to 5 years)

The evidence: Real workers, real families

Annette Harris, Coffs Harvour Asked by her employer to sign an AWA that removed penalty rates and overtime, as well a annual leave loading and rostered days off - all for an increase of just 2 cents an hour!

Amber Oswald, Pittwater 16 year old, sacked and offered her job back on an AWA that cut penalty rates and overtime - which reduced her pay by over $40 a week!
